If your dog is howling when you’re away, they’re probably suffering from separation anxiety. In this case, you should comfort your dog whenever you’re going to leave your dog.

There’s probably nothing to worry about. Your dog, unless they’re actually awake, is probably just having a bad dream. They may also be in pain, but it’s unlikely if they are asleep. Never wake them, as they may get startled and bite you. There is really no reason to, unless they are keeping everyone awake, as bad dreams are just dreams.
